7 days Uganda safari:  Is a phenomenal way is exploring some of Uganda’s top tourist sites including Kibale Forest National Park for a chance to track the chimpanzees and undertake a nature walk through the Bigodi wetland sanctuary, the beautiful Queen Elizabeth National Park for game viewing and the refreshing Boat cruise and finally take you to the south-western side of the country where you will trek the mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Kibale Forest National Park

It is found in the western part of Uganda is the top chimpanzee tracking destination in the country with a population of more than 1500 chimpanzees. This 795-square kilometer National Park was established in 1993 and has over 70 species of mammals including 13 primate species with the chimpanzees being the most-sought after.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is undeniably one of Uganda’s most beautiful and frequently visited National Parks established in 1952 and extending for 1978 square kilometers. This Park is a haven to over 95 species of mammals and more than 600 species of birds making it one of the rich biodiversity hotspot in the country.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the south-west of Uganda was gazetted in 1991 and covers an area of 321 square kilometers. This Park is one of the four popular mountain gorilla trekking destinations but boasts of over 120 species of mammals and 350 species of birds of interest.

Guidelines for trekking mountain gorillas and chimpanzees
  • Don’t track the mountain gorillas or even chimpanzees if you have flue or cough.
  • The minimum trekking age for both primates is 15 years.
  • Maintain a distance of 7 meters when in their presence to avoid possibility of spreading diseases.
  • You are allowed to spend only one hour with the mountain gorillas or chimpanzees.
  • Avoid making noise when trekking or when in the presence of chimpanzees and mountain gorillas.
  • Avoid littering the Park because rubbish or food left overs become breeding places for germs.
  • Avoiding flash cameras for taking photos of mountain gorillas or chimpanzees.

Day 1: Arrival and Airport pick-up

Upon setting your feet on the beautiful Ugandan soil at Entebbe International Airport, our driver/guide will welcome you into the magical country and offer briefing before transferring to the Capital City (Kampala). Check in at the pre-booked hotel for dinner and overnight.

Meal plan: Lunch and dinner (depending on time of arrival).

Journey time: 45 to 60 minutes.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park.

Have breakfast from the Hotel and meet with your Driver/guide or be picked from the Hotel for a 5-6 hours’ journey to Kibale Forest National Park, the primate capital of the World where you will track the chimpanzees, mankind’s closest relatives. This exciting journey involves enjoying the jaw-dropping views of the lush tea plantations of Toro, Mubende Rocks and stopovers one being at the mysterious Nakayima tree and the other for lunch in fort Portal Town. Continue to the Lodge within Kibale Forest National Park for dinner and overnight.

Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Have breakfast and get your trekking gear ready then converge at Kanyanchu Visitor center for briefing. Start the walk slowly and increase the pace but after one hour to 3 hours, you will be alerted of the chimpanzees’ presence by the ranger/guide. Spend one hour with these interesting primates before returning to the Lodge for lunch.

After lunch and short rest, check-out of the Lodge and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Game drive and boat cruise.

Arise and shine to the sweet melodies of the wilderness, have breakfast and head for an early morning game drive where you will be introduced to the sights of the African wildlife including Uganda Kobs, Lions, leopards, buffaloes, Topis, elephants and warthogs among others. The activity will also involve exploring some of the Crater Lakes in the Park and bird species that call Queen Elizabeth National Park home. Head back to the Lodge for lunch.

The afternoon boat cruise awaits you and will be conducted along the Kazinga Channel where you will be treated to yet another surprising wildlife sight at the banks of the Channel where the Nile crocodiles and Hippos will be seen relaxing as well as the aquatic birds especially the African fish eagles and pelicans among others. Retreat to the Loge to relax, have dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking.

It’s on day 5 that you will be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to achieve your dream of encountering the endangered mountain gorillas. Have breakfast and check-out of the Lodge and start the exciting journey that will reward you with the awe-inspiring views of the Kigezi highlands. Lunch will be en-route at Savannah Resort in Kihihi and arrive Bwindi in the evening.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking.

After your breakfast, get your trekking gear ready for the exhilarating gorilla trek. Move to the Briefing point where you will meet your fellow trekkers for the briefing on the guidelines of the activity. Later move/be driven to the trailhead where you will trek in the company of 7 other trekkers, armed rangers, guides and porters. After 1-4 hours, you will be ushered to the allocated gorilla family going around with their daily activities.

Spend one hour interacting with them and return to the Lodge for lunch and relaxation. If you are not too exhausted, continue for an optional evening walk but if you feel exhausted, you can choose to relax at the Lodge.
