Specifically, a gorilla trekking permit allows one hour with habituated mountain gorillas, while a chimpanzee trekking permit enables guided tracking of chimpanzees in designated forests. Because these experiences take place in fragile ecosystems, authorities strictly regulate access through a limited number of permits issued per day.

Primarily, travelers obtain these permits through the Uganda Wildlife Authority or via licensed tour operators who manage the booking process. Typically, visitors select a preferred date and location, submit passport details, and make full payment to secure availability. Refund Eligibility

Refund Percentages

  • 9–45 days before trekking: up to 25% refund
  • 0–8 days before trekking: no refund

Because permit slots are limited and highly competitive, last-minute cancellations rarely receive compensation.

Refund Application Procedure

To apply for a refund, the permit holder must submit a formal written request to the Uganda Wildlife Authority or through the tour operator who secured the booking. Next, the applicant must attach all relevant supporting documents. Afterward, the authority reviews the request based on its refund policy guidelines.

Once approved, the refund process begins, although it may take several weeks to complete. Therefore, submitting requests early improves the chances of a successful outcome.
